cruise ships -- all i see are floating pig troughs dropping debris in the ocean apart from carting lazy people from port to port to purchase t-shirts produced in sweat shops with lecherous pedophiles lurking in the corners of shadow.

I can't handle boats of any kind, or even the piers leading to the boats. I don't like the rocking up and down under my feet. I am certain that I will end up in the water. I don't even like the water in the bathtub to be too far above my waist. Basically, I am just terrified of water. So was Natalie Wood, so I hope I don't end up like her.

While I don't have much of a problem on large ships, I do prefer to be within sight of land. I flew helicopters for teh Army, and always preferred being low-level than at altitude. Something about flying close to the earth is comforting.

A friend of mine cannot bear to be on the water and out of sight of land ("Master and Commander" was a tough movie for her to watch, "Das Boot" is simply out of the question).

There's a ferry that runs from the Outer Banks of NC back to the mainland that is briefly out of sight of land (mostly due to the low-lying nature of said land) during its transit. This was seen as a golden opportunity to hang out in the car, despite the fact that the water is so shallow we could probably walk to shore if the ferry had a problem.

It doesn't have to make sense to feel real.
