Makes me want to visit London! Although I have never been, I have known Englishmen and women, and they do seem rather cold at first,very polite and proper, but once they know you they are very warm and helpful, as you described. I think it is cultural. They feel it is ‘bad form’ to display publicly your feelings, and eye contact is a bit too intimate. I tend to be too honest and open for what they consider to be proper public demeanor, but since I am not English they forgive me. You couldn’t find a more devoted and helpful friend than the English. Good post!

Great to know about London! It’s closer to top of my visit list after all of the many wonderful and interesting secrets you’ve shared (re: the food, the “key to the lock”, etc.)

Great place. I spend every Christmas in East Sheen. Take lovely walks in Richmond Park and ride buses and the underground.
