Airborne Has Forsaken Me

I cannot believe that Airborne is a fraud! I used to take the stuff religiously with my water – which I have already talked extensively about. The only thing that I drank instead of water was water with airborne. Sometimes I would make a special cocktail of airborne and emergen-c mixed. I don’t want to get sick so I don’t fuck around. It is the worst thing for me to get sick because I cannot ever take days off, no matter what. I just can’t call in sick to work because there is no one to call. If I tried to call in sick I would just have to try to explain it to my boss – myself – and I am one mean employer. So there are no sick days if you are me. Illness is not an option. Also, I am terrified of getting colds because I usually lose my voice when that happens, and then I am in seriously deep shit. I can’t mime my shows, so I can never lose my voice.

That is why I thought airborne was such a godsend. I put so much faith in those little citrus alka-seltzer-like tablets. I thought I could touch anything and then pick at my eyes as much as I wanted. I thought I could just let anyone cough on me. I thought that I never had to wash my hands! I thought I was infallible. It turns out – we are not! Airborne is a scam!! I feel totally ripped off!!

I hope emergen-c still works.

Airborne is actually quite effective, and not a fraud — at least not in the way you think. The marketing was a fraud in that they pretended it was invented by a White American schoolteacher, when it’s actually based off of an ancient Chinese herbal formula that’s been used since 1200.

However, it works. The formula is called Yin Qiao San and has been used for what the Chinese call Wind Heat, or the flu, in Western medical ter. Empirically Yin Qiao has shown tremendous results in helping the body cast off the Wind invasion (both flus and colds — these are terms understood in traditional Chinese medicine and not in the Western framework) when used at the first onset of symptoms. I only know this b/c: (1) I’m Chinese, and my mom likes to claim we invented everything; and (2) my girlfriend confirmed it — she’s an acupuncturist and she learned all of this during four years of school at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (don’t get me started on why it’s still called “oriental medicine”).

All this now-rich teacher lady did was add a few more vitamins to the original Yin Qiao San formula.

    Hey there Margaret…

I would be a bit leery of the possibility that Airborne is a “fraud”, especially if you had positive personal results using it. I’ve know others who really benefited from taking it - and it kept them going in the face of a nasty bunch of symptoms.

Because Airborne is the kind of product that it is, (which means that it employs herbal, and natural components to boost the immune system), it’s a great scapegoat for negative press due to the fact that regular chemical medicine could lose it’s “torso”hold into all things health related if more of us used more natural methods for relief from illness and disease.

Thousands of years ago (7 to be exact) I don’t think there were any scientists to confirm the validity of acupuncture - yet it’s a modality of healing that has benefited generations of people. Now, we are so “expert” hungry that we disengage from our own personal results - if the stuff works for you… use it.

Personally, I spent years in the Natural Foods Industry, which meant that I was privy to a load of bullshit about vitamin and mineral products, and their safety blah, blah, blah… At the end of the day, I decided to use what worked, and trust that my personal expertise was housed in my incredible body.

At the end of the day, those of us who laugh a ton don’t get sick as much anyway… so you are a great substitute for Airborne, anyday!

    Cheers,
    Kyle

I still use it. It’s still good for you, it just can’t CLAIM that it’s a miracle product, I think is what they’re saying. So, keep using it. And Emergen-C.

I take Elderberry syrup though, if I feel something coming on. Sometimes it won’t get rid of it but it makes it much less severe, it’s a natural immune booster. Also, if you have a bad case of bronchitis or any infection, don’t take antibiotics unless death is imminent. Antibiotics are shitty products that cause more harm than good. Seriously.

Take Colloidal Silver (for no more than 10 days) and/or Propolis (bee pollen product) instead. Those products are all natural and they work. And no side effects. (But don’t take colloidal silver beyond 10 days, it’ll turn your skin blue or gray.. very weird!)

Airborne is not a fraud, according to that article. The sellers of airborne are frauds because they lied about their clinical trials and I think one faked his degree. The fraud was in what they said they did, and who they said they were. It doesn’t mean (necessarily) that airborne doesn’t work

then you get into whether clinical trials WOULD have shown it worked. A lot of eastern and herbal medicines aren’t shown to work in Western-style clinical trials, but that’s a whole other debate.

when i’m feeling out of sorts I find that penis usually makes me feel better… that and sassafrass tea… but I don’t know what they call sassafrass in oriental medicine, or why they call it oriental medicine.

Since taking vitamin D regularly, I haven’t been getting the flu or colds.

    Oh, Hello Margaret!
My name is Eduardo, I’m from Chile. I just discovered your blog. I’ve been reading more about you because I saw two of your DVD’s, and I became an instant fan. I highly doubt that you can visit south america, but I just wanted to say that I love what you do. I’m a fan of the dresden dolls, and loved the True Colors thing. You’re a very beautiful and incredibly talented woman. (Yes, I’m gay).

    All the love,

    Edu.

Have you tried ColdFX? It’s been clinically proven to be effective against colds. My daughter comes home from daycare with all kinds of bugs (it’s like a petrie dish over there) and I rarely get sick.

That said, if Airborne has worked for you, why change?

  11. Cara Mia Says:

i also heard on the news that if you saved your Airborne receipts, you could get your money back. it seems penny-pinching to actually do it, but you know, that stuff adds up. ;)

  12. chriso Says:

I am all about the Zicam tablets that dissolve in your mouth. I take one the second I feel a cold coming on and then one later in the day and I am usually feeling great by the end of the day.

  13. Amber Says:

Dude I used to be obsessed with airborn. but now just the smell of it makes me gag…
and i would say that you can still use it….but everyone else has. soooooo good luck with that whole not getting sick thing.

  14. darsh Says:

i take that stuff too before i travel or when i dont want a hangover (altho emergen-c is supposed to be a good one for that apparently) - it works but then i often supplement it with herbal tea (decoction of reishi and astragalus - cant go wrong there) because i cant stand nasal congestion….neti pot works. i have a stainless steel with a spout that looks like a penis, for real, and it’s always kinda amusing inserting it in my nostril. when i had the beginnings of a cold i use it and it’s exciting to see all the snot that comes out.

hope yer feeling better. i cant wait for you to come back to honolulu! i know how to make spam musubi…

  15. Pavlova Says:

Honestly, if you want a good deal of C vitamin.. just switch from water to cranberry juice. The stuff is so full of it, probably even more than orange juice.

  16. keli Says:

I have started drinking monavie daily and all of my family has been sick, I have 90 6th graders daily and I have not been sick this season yet. If that is what has made me stay well, I am willing to shell out the money for it!

    Hey Margaret-
Ever try Oscillococcinum or Zpac?? Oscillococcinum always works for me, here’s a link for that…

    http://www.amazon.com/Boiron-Oscillococcinum-Bonus-Pack-doses/dp/B00012NEXC

Zpac is made by the fine makers of viagra, and according to one of the drug reps is more popular than the boner pills! You need a perscription for that though…

As someone also mentioned, a little penis goes a long way towards making you feel better too! (not a little one, though!)
    xo
