You are a great inspiration and hero to the Korean-American, lesbian, gay and many other communities; who for decades had no voice, power, or opinion. So it's not a surprise that I purchased tickets to your Seattle debut of "Beautiful" on May 10th as early as March. But now everything has changed...I will be leaving Seattle to work in Korea as an English Instructor. My life, independence/freedom, financial circumstance, and my tickets to your show; all shifted for better or worse I suppose. I am more upset that I will have to miss seeing you on stage than anything else, which I shouldn't say but will; is pathetic. I should be anxious, excited and happy that I will be able to live in another country full of culture, but also ponder what I had experienced before; prejudice and hatred (in some places) for Korean-Americans returning to Korea. But no worries girl, I can handle it. I will be free, almost cut off entirely from my parents and friends for a year or maybe more, and be able to find my true being; something that has been difficult, with many of the same underlying issues that you have faced but more "public" and scrutinized...weight, sexuality, beauty, etc. In fact, I should be more upset about other things; that I am leaving my boyfriend of 2 years (my longest relationship), my sisters who were gradually depleted of their childhood due to "family matters" and look up to me as a alter-ego mother figure, and the fact that it has come down to this; leaving so suddenly and starting fresh in order to find myself. My goodness, well this reply to your posting supposedly to thank you for being you has become a confession altogether. Well what I really wanted to say girl is PLEASE, PLEASE consider doing something even more crazy, like touring in Seoul, Korea??!! It would be your most controversial tour yet, and don't be surpised to find bad asses such as ourselves looking for a bad ass role model in the most fiercely opposing demographics... ~Maria H.
