I Miss The Sensuous Woman
Thursday, June 12th, 2008Kat Von D at Sephora
Wednesday, June 11th, 2008I had a visit with Kat Von D yesterday and she gave me her entire new line of makeup for Sephora. It is amazing! If you wear makeup or you know someone who does, you have to get it for them. It is totally beautiful and really done with a true artist’s sensibility. The colors are gorgeous and they are very Kat, but they are also very wearable for all different types of beautiful women. I am going to buy this for all my girlfriends. This would also be a good gift for any teenage girl just starting out with makeup because it is very hip and cool but a good basic collection of what you need in the beginning. Growing up fast is fun!!! Not really, but makeup is one of those very important femme rites of passage, and Kat has come up with the ultimate rock star femme collection.
Here is a picture of us! That is my publicist Ken Phillips in the middle.
Tila Tequila
Tuesday, June 10th, 2008I love Tila Tequila and in many ways I consider her my spiritual daughter. She is a beautiful Asian American woman with a head for business and a bod for sin. She rules and she’s got tattoos!! Oh and she is bisexual!! She’s great and I think her show “A Shot at Love” is groundbreaking and fabulously entertaining. I always find that I am rooting way more for Tila to get with the girls than the guys. It seems like a girl would be a better match for her, because the boys on the show are either too needy/clingy or too macho. They always seem to cast macho dudes who enjoy fighting because the season isn’t complete unless at least one contestant has to go to the hospital.
My favorite is tough girl Lisa, who gets in lots of fights with Tila, but then they totally make up right away and it is very sexy. Totally old school butch/femme style. I’m a bit behind on my episodes so I need to catch up this week on what is going on. Hoping Lisa is still in the running! I should have just asked Tila myself. I saw her at the Bravo A-list Awards on Wednesday looking hot and sitting in the front row right by all the Project Runway alumni. We didn’t really talk or anything – I just told her that I was a fan and she was really sweet. She seems very sweet on the show, because she tends to get very emotional and attached to everyone pretty quickly.
Sometimes people complain and say that the show is all fixed fake and that Tila isn’t really queer and it’s all bullshit, but I don’t believe them. I think it is real, and even if it isn’t – who fucking cares? We have a major hit TV dating show that revolves around a queer star. The real identity of the players or the legitimacy of the game isn’t important to me. What is important is that people like Tila, which means people like me, are no longer invisible. We are here, we are queer, and everyone is getting used to it.
True Colors 08
Monday, June 9th, 2008The True Colors tour made a stop at Radio City Music Hall last week and it was incredible!!! I am not hosting the show this year, but Carson Kressley is doing an awesome job as host, which is great. I think it is the hardest job on the tour, because you have to keep the audience entertained between the set changes and you never know how long anything is going to take. Carson had them all cheering and I especially liked all his fabulous wardrobe changes between each act.
I love True Colors, and I forgot I wasn’t the host this year, because at the end of The Cliks’ rocking opening set, I ran out on stage to make out with Lucas, as is our tradition from last year, and I got yelled at by the stage manager for disrupting the show! I love the lineup this year, which includes many of my absolute favorite artists like The Cliks, The Indigo Girls, Wanda Sykes, Rosie O’Donnell, Tegan and Sara, Regina Spektor, the B-52s (!!!!!!!!!!) and of course the wonderful Cyndi Lauper.
Later in the night, Cyndi asked me to go on right before her so I ended up being in the show anyway. I was totally nervous because I was following the B-52s, who I have loved since I was a kid. They were my idols growing up. I remember lying in bed listening to late night interviews with them on the radio, about how whenever they went on tour, the real show was happening in the audience, with people dressed in all kinds of crazy outfits and the biggest beehive hairdos ever. They said that two women came backstage with plastic crabs and other crustaceans stuck in their beehives. I dreamed that one day I might actually be able to attend a B-52s concert and be able to see the beehives up close. I got to do even better by meeting the whole band and sharing the stage with them. They sound incredible and look beautiful and are a treat treat treat!!!
My “official” appearance in the true colors tour will be in Oklahoma City on June 23rd, but don’t be surprised if I show up unannounced at other dates – most likely Berkeley and possibly Seattle. I have a little time on my hands these days because I am taking a bit of a break from the Beautiful tour and my new TV show, which will start airing August 21st.
Family Feud!
Monday, June 2nd, 2008We all did celebrity Family Feud yesterday and we kicked ass! We didn’t win, but we made a very respectable showing. We played against Corbin Bernsen and his family, who were very nice and good opponents. They ended up winning and going up against the American Chopper dudes who were super cool!
I was really proud of my parents because they didn’t know what Family Feud was. The only thing they have that is similar in Korea was the war. They did remarkably well and my dad even razzed host Al Roker a little. It was awesome. We did just as good as any white family would have!
