Cho Dependent Album Art and Release Date

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

Cho Dependent, Margaret’s new comedy music album with several musical guests, is set to be released on August 24th.

“I have wanted to make an album like this forever. I love comedy music!”

The lyrics on Cho Dependent, which tackle issues of sex, drugs, rock & roll (and lice), may be laugh-inducing, but Cho has made no compromises when it comes to the quality of the songwriting and production. “Over the years of being an intense music geek I got to meet a lot of my heroes and I tricked them all into writing songs with me,” explains Cho. “Most comics want to be rock stars, and most rock stars want to be comics, so it was an easy exchange.”

“There are so many amazing people I got to work with on this album,” Cho continues, “Jon Brion, Fiona Apple, Tegan and Sara, Andrew Bird, Ani DiFranco, Garrison Starr, Meghan Toohey, Brendan Benson, Rachael Yamagata, Carl Newman, Grant Lee Phillips, Patty Griffin, Ben Lee, Kevin Barnes — I still have to pinch myself!”

Cho Dependent will be released on August 24th. You can preview one of the songs from the album, “Eat Shit and Die” (a collaboration with Grant Lee Phillips), at the album page here. If you buy tickets during the Fan Club pre-sale will receive a download code at the close of the pre-sale for “No Offense,” a bonus track Margaret collaborated on with Susie Suh and Garrison Starr.

We’ll be offering more bonus tracks in advance of the album release, and an exclusive pre-order available only on Margaret’s website next month, so stay tuned!

Margaret at Bonnaroo!

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Margaret will be at Bonnaroo on the Comedy Theatre stage next week along with an amazing comedy lineup, which includes Conan O’Brien, Aziz Ansari, Doug Benson and more!

Margaret’s set times:

Thurs. June 10th 10:30pm & 12:30am

Fri. June 11th 3:30pm & 5:30pm

This is an extra special Bonnaroo outing as well, because Margaret will be filming a music video for “Baby I’m With The Band,” a song she co-wrote with legendary musician Brendan Benson for her forthcoming comedy music album, Cho Dependent. We are very excited to announce that Brendan will be sitting in on a few songs with Margaret during the festival!

“Baby I’m With The Band” is a song all about groupies; the music video is being directed by Liam Sullivan (”Shoes“) and will feature cameos from several Bonnaroo artists. If you’re a band performing at Bonnaroo, check out the poster below and contact us if you’d like to be a part of it. If you’re a fan and you’re going to be at Bonnaroo, look for us with cameras at Margaret’s sets; there might be a chance for you to be in the video too!

Another Brick in The Wall

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

I am disgusted by Roger Waters act of defacing what really should be a national monument – Elliott Smith’s memorial wall on Sunset Blvd. His advertisers, trying to get hipsters to see him tour “The Wall” yet fucking AGAIN have put graffiti all over the beloved Silverlake monument. I am not a Pink Floyd hater. I loved “The Wall” – and when the movie came out, it totally changed my life. I decided that my life would be like the groupie Jenny Wright played – all spandex and denim vest and laminates without a bra. That was me – that is me. I don’t have anything against Roger Waters personally, but this is so shitty!

If you live in LA, are a Largo regular, love indie rock and live east of Robertson, then to you, Elliott Smith is like family. It’s like someone defaced our family crypt. I am so disappointed. I am so sick about it. And all of us, the broken-hearted Elliott Smith fans who still miss him so badly, who won’t see him at Sasquach or Bonnaroo or Largo with Jon Brion ever again, who won’t get to hear a new song or a new album from him ever ever ever again because he is gone gone gone from this world forever and the only thing keeping him alive is our love for him – our grateful, undying, everchanging, ever-evolving – ever strong devotion and love for him – for us – that wall – that wall was all we had. We have the records, we have the songs all on heavy rotation, I have a rare burned-by-Elliott-Smith-himself CD of all the songs off “From a Basement on the Hill,” beautifully raw and yet unmixed and unmastered – it’s my prized possession. And once, we had a monument, where we could go and say hello and goodbye and I love you and I’m sorry.

And now we don’t. Because of corporate greed and total ignorance – this idea that there are ‘hipster’ locations that you can co-opt for yourself. Well you can’t. Fuck Roger Waters. You have become another brick in the wall.

The Bear Song is coming

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

April 5th brings the release of The Bear Song by Pixie Herculon (half of which looks suspiciously like Jill Sobule). The song is a sweaty blur of old school dance floor beats and loads of back hair. Male back hair! It also features a brief but supercharged freestyle rap by Margaret (a friend to bears everywhere). You can hear a clip of the song and get info on buying it at pixieherculon.com. Please spread the word.
